White Hill Centre – our mission
White Hill Centre provides facilities for recreation, leisure and education for the benefit of Chesham and the neighbouring areas. Our policy is to offer use of premises at very competitive rates with commitment to continue doing so as part of its service to the community.
Home to fitness classes, arts classes, educational classes, social clubs and much more for all ages … White Hill Centre is home to many organisations, even our new local radio station – Chiltern Voice! Over 1000 people use the centre each week for recreation, a chance to learn new skills or to meet like-minded people; and for some it is their only source of social contact.
A short history
This wonderful Victorian building began life as White Hill School in 1890, and has been a community centre since 1976, thanks to a group of people, including Derek Goddard and Cic Upcott. They set up Chesham & District Community Association to run the building as a community centre. There are many among our current members who attended White Hill School, including John Slatter who launched our Looking Forward Appeal in 2017.
